The Nike Metcon 7 AMP is the version that offers exclusive and limited edition colorways of the shoe. AMP has a superior styling and a cooler look but still has all the features and attributes of Metcon 7.
We got our hands (feet?) on a pair of these as quickly as we could.
This Nike Metcon 7 AMP is just as good as the the regular model for CrossFit style workouts.
Let’s take a tour.
The fit is narrow. It feels tight on my foot. This is like every Nike Metcon shoe for the past several years. I do recommend you go 1/2 size up but it’s very hard for me to give general advice on sizing. I’d rather have a slightly larger shoe – then tighten it down with the laces personally.Let’s start from the bottom (outsole) up. The outsole is made from two different kinds of rubber. There’s more traction up front, and stiffer rubber in the heel for a stable weightlifting platform. There’s flex grooves up in the front too – as you can see.Notice how portions of the outsole – which wraps up around the midfoot to provide protection to the upper while doing rope climbs – is translucent. That’s AMP style! The upper is comfortable and seems like it will be very durable. The shoe has regular laces and uses FlyWire. When you tighten the laces, that tightens up the FlyWire, which runs around the inside of the shoe. This makes for a more secure fit. There’s an innovative lace lock tab – just like on the regular M7 – so you can ensure the laces stay put. I like it – it works and it is a lightweight solution. The heel is good and features a TPU (plastic) bump for minimal drag when doing hand stand push ups. This has been a staple item on Metcon shoes for about 1/2 a decade now…Another view of the laces and lace lock tab.Close-up of the heel.Overall, it’s a quality built shoe and it looks good – and it packs the M7 performance features for the gym or the CrossFit box. I recommend this shoe.
Nike Metcon 7 AMP Versus Nike Metcon 7
That’s the regular M7 on the bottom – Nike Metcon 7 AMP on the top. The AMP is fancier, but provides the same benefits.Mild or Wild? You make the choice. No matter which style you go with – just remember these are noisy gym shoes. That firm heel makes a lot of sound on hard surfaces like concrete, sidewalks, wood floors, etc.
