Let’s review the new Nike Zoom Metcon Turbo 2.

The Nike React Metcon Turbo is a cross-training shoe that gained fame in CrossFit because of its stability and responsiveness. With the latest iteration coming out, what more can we expect from it? Let’s find out!

Nike Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 – Nike adds a Zoom Air capsule up front for even more cushion. This is the most cushioned Nike Metcon shoe. But that ain’t saying it is a running shoe – it is not.

This shoe is a cross trainer – it’s not a running shoe. But, it is the most cushioned of the Nike Metcon shoes – and that’s what makes it interesting.

Here’s the new shoe. You can see from the outside a lot of features are shared with the Nike Metcon 7. For example – notice the heel has a TPU bump – this is to ensure reduced wall friction when doing HSPUs.

Here’s another view from the front quarter. This is a pretty good looking shoe – but some people will be turned off by the very obvious Swoosh.

Another look from the side. You can see here that this is a pretty low-cut shoe- it doesn’t come up high on your ankle.

Here’s the unique insole of this shoe. That’s the Zoom air capsule up in the forefoot. The middle is a rigid plastic bridge, and the rest is Nike’s React foam.

With all these ingredients – this shoe has MORE cushion than the Nike Metcon 7 (or the 6, or the 5, etc.) Having said that this is not like the Nike running shoes that use React foam. Those tend to have TONS of React foam. It’s much more minimal here – which means you can still lift in these bad boys.

The tongue is pretty minimal , but sufficient.

Overall, if you want a cross trainer with some cushion – this is probably the one to get. Still not a running shoe though.

Nike Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 Review – Overview

The Nike Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 adds electrifying speed to your workout. Combining stability and responsiveness, this lightweight package helps you move faster during circuit training, high-intensity intervals on the treadmill, and a cardio workout. Every detail of the shoe, from the Zoom Air cushioning underfoot to the rope wrap at the instep, is simplified to minimize weight while maximizing function and durability.

The materials used are lighter and stronger for a quick and powerful shoe. The Zoom Air and the Nike React foam are lightweight and responsive for quick, repetitive exercises like box jumps and double-unders. The shoe can handle abrasion with its instep on the upper that is slim and lightweight but still rigid, while the mesh on the outer part keeps it breathable during high-heat sets.

The rope wrap and handstand heel clip are revamped and are also pared down to shave off ounces. They give you the same function and durability without the weight. The heel is wide and flat to keep you stable, while the grippy rubber sole is flexible so your foot can bend comfortably.

Nike Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 Review – In Summary

That’s our review of the Nike Zoom Metcon Turbo 2.

This shoe is much like last year’s Nike React Metcon Turbo – the big change is there’s a Zoom Air capsule up front to provide additional cushion. It’s a solid cross training shoe , even if it looks a bit odd.

The Nike React Metcon was just released in November 2019, but Nike is already making some new colorways available. Here’s the Nike React Metcon in white. What’s React? It is Nike’s reactive foam cushioning system. For the React Metcon, it’s a drop-in midsole that works in conjunction with the regular outsole – which is the same as that of the Metcon 5. The React Metcon also uses FlyKnit – that is a yarn-like knit material that allows Nike to make a seamless, one piece upper. It’s not as lightweight as the FlyKnit in the React running shoe line from Nike, as it is double layer instead of single. But, it’s still pretty good. The Nike React Metcon doesn’t have laces – instead it uses Nike’s quick pull system.
