Take your workout outside of the gym with the Ballistic Trainer. It is a versatile and functional training shoe to face the real world of weighted ruck activities, sandbag workouts in dirty settings, even conditions where you need better traction, and surroundings where you need more support.

GORUCK Ballistic Trainers – Our Review

Hey! We’ve reviewed the GORUCK ballistic trainer.

GORUCK Ballistic Trainer Shoe Review - Front To Back 1
This is GORUCK’s first attempt at a CrossFit style training shoe – and they did their homework.
GORUCK Ballistic Trainer Shoe Review - Side Profile Left
Subdued style – it’s nice to have that option.
GORUCK Ballistic Trainer Shoe Review - Spearhead Logo
The tongue is thin. That’s the GORUCK spearhead logo. Laces are laces – and they work just fine. You’ve got the extra set of eyelets to do a lace lock or runner’s loop if desired.
GORUCK Ballistic Trainer Shoe Review Versus Reebok Nano X Side by Side
Which shoe looks better to you? Some find the Nano X’s styling over-done.

Overall, it’s a competent – if somewhat boring looking- CrossFit shoe.

But, not everybody wants flashy shoes – so these are great for that.

GORUCK Ballistic Trainer Shoe Review Versus Nike Metcon 6 - another view
As mentioned, the Ballistic Trainer fits me better than the Nike – that’s largely due to the forefoot width but also the high collar and great heel counter in the Ballistic Trainer.

GORUCK Ballistic Trainers – Overview

The best feature of the Ballistic Trainer is its 3X support™ and 3X stability for all three of your arches. The dense PU foam insert is custom-made to fit the outlines of the foot and support all the arches. Three different rubber compounds form a single, seamless rubber outsole. The forefoot rubber is devised for improved grip, while the heel area is solid and won’t wear down after miles of running or rucking. The midfoot is designed from a rock climbing compound and hardened for superior abrasion resistance, ideal for rope climbs.

The forefoot is built utilizing an engineered warp-knit technology which provides a consistent, one-piece vamp and toe cap while offering reinforced strength, breathability, and flexibility. Two different types of EVA merged in a smooth slope from forefoot to heel, as the high rebound, high flexibility EVA in the forefoot provides cushion and support for explosive movement. The robust, reliable EVA in the heel maintains a steady platform to keep you grounded when lifting or squatting. When doing dynamic, load-bearing exercises, anchor your foot with a supportive, injection-molded heel counter that stabilizes your heel.

When lifting heavy loads or moving more than 400 meters, the 8mm heel-to-toe drop in the Ballistic Trainers™ creates the best biomechanical advantage compared to other training shoes. The lace area, midfoot, and heel is made from two panels of 1680D CORDURA® Ballistic Nylon — offering the toughest Special Forces grade abrasion resistance against the stresses of rope climbs. This 1680D CORDURA® also provides superior midfoot and heel support during dynamic movements. Extra top eyelets can produce a tight heel lock, typically called a runner’s loop or lock lace, to prevent heel slippage and needless movement around the ankle.
