Nike has released new colorways of the Nike React Metcon for January 2020.
Let’s take a close look.
There are unique styles for both Men and Women.
Pricing is unchanged at about $150 US.
Heel view of the Nike React Metcon for women. You’ll see that the knife edge heel from the Nike Metcon 5 is in use – this means minimal drag against the wall when performing HSPUs (Hand Stand Push Ups)
You can see on the Women’s version of the shoe the grippy heel piece that says Metcon is white. It looks good.
From the top you can see the quick pull lacing system – and that great looking subdued NIKE text. It’s a great looking shoe!
All the performance attributes of the Men’s shoe are here in the Women’s version. The rope wrap, quick pull lacing system, flyknit upper, etc.
Here’s we have the Women’s version of the Nike React Metcon in White/Atmosphere Gray. Notice the NIKE label here is very subdued – that’s pretty cool as it is still a great looking shoe.
The Nike React Metcon uses the outsole from the Nike Metcon 5 unchanged. It has the same "sticky" rubber up front for traction, with firmer, more durable rubber in the heel for weightlifting stability. It’s an indoor style of pattern – those grooves are not very deep – this is definitely not a trail running shoe.
The heel view shoes us the overall shape of the shoe. The “METCON” name looks very nice – and it’s made from a grippy rubber that has a great feel to it – but it’s not really functional in any way.
The inside view of the shoe shows that massive rope wrap – and the flyknit upper. You can also see the pull tab on the back of the heel – that helps you put these tight fitting shoes on.
From the top we can see that bold NIKE label. It’s too much for some people, but doesn’t look bad to me. The Nike Swoosh is on the side of the shoe, but is pretty minimal.
Being based on the Nike Metcon 5 – that massive "Rope Wrap" is on the shoe. This will help you climb rope like no other shoe – because it is tough and has a great tread pattern for grip – but it does add quite a bit of heft to the shoes – these weigh in at the mid 13 ounce mark for a Men’s size 11.5 pair.
The White/Atmosphere Gray/Black color combination looks really sharp. This is a Men’s show model. Here you get a good view of the FlyKnit upper and the bold NIKE label along the top.
The big change with the Nike React Metcon (which is based on the Nike Metcon 5) is the drop-in midsole – which is shown here. It’s made from single density React foam – Nike’s advanced cushioning system that provides bounce and rebound.

Let’s take a look at the Nike Metcon 8 Premium. This is the Women’s version, and available from Rogue Fitness. Metcon 8 is in many ways similar to Metcon 7—they both use Nike React foam, they have a wide, flat heel, a rubber outsole, flexible forefoot, and a heel clip. But there are also some noticeable improvements. It is perfect for lifters, athletes who do cross-training, have wider feet, and want to customize their shoes. From Rogue Fitness – The Nike Metcon 8 Premium: Nike Metcon 8 Premium – Women’s – Overview Metcon 8 is the go-to model for training and relies on a lighter, more breathable upper than the earlier iteration. What differs it from the earlier version? Metcon 7 has a chainlike mesh, while Metcon 8 has textured synthetic overlays to keep your feet cool while ensuring durability. While Metcon 7 has a Velcro tab on the top and bottom of the tongue, Metcon 8 has it only on the top. For the first time in a long time, Nike has two Oly lifting shoes available. Let’s compare them head to head – because there are some BIG differences between the two. This is Nike Savaleos Versus Nike Romaleos. Nike Romaleos and Nike Savaleos are both designed for Olympic weightlifters. From a quick look, they almost appear identical. But what differs one from the other? Let’s examine closely. Here are some of the styles we are going to look at: Time to compare these shoes side by side. Romaleos Versus Savaleos YouTube Review See these shoes side by side and sole to sole here: What’s the big differences? The Romaleos 4 continues to be rock solid and the most heel raise. In comparison the Savaleos is lighter, has a bit more cushion, less drop – but it’s also quieter, easier to walk in – and cheaper. I’d say go with the Romaleos 4 if you want the ultimate in rock-solid stability – otherwise the Savaleos is an excellent Oly lifter too. Reebok Nano X2 – Our Review Want the real scoop? We got hands-on – I mean feet-on for testing this shoe. Firstly, let’s state that it is an evolution from the Nano X1. This wasn’t a radical jump in design – unlike the switch from Nano X to Nano X1. They’ve beefed up the external “cage” that gives the shoe rigidity. The TPU (a kind of stiff plastic) is [Read more …]
