Nike has dropped some new styles of their excellent Nike Metcon 5 this month.
Here’s “Black/White/Gunsmoke/Black”.
The outsole of the Metcon 5 is flat – for stability in lifting weights. It’s really an indoor gym shoe so there is not a lot of deep tread like you would find on an outdoor running shoe.
The Nike Metcon 5 has a 3d printed haptic upper – which is both tough and breathable at the same time.
The "rope wrap" is back on this version of the Metcon. It’s huge – but that’s OK because it looks good.
From the top you can see the overall layout of these shoes. We should note, they are a bit narrow. You may want to go 1/2 size up from your normal size for width.
The laces have "FlyWire" integrated – this helps to really lock the fit in on your foot. Think of it as a light-weight mid-foot strap – almost like that on a weightlifting shoe.
The heel has some handy stats printed on it. One of the things it calls out is the 4mm heel to toe drop (or profile) as listed on the shoe.
Hyperlifts give you an additional 8mm (Mens) of heel to toe drop. This makes it easier to "get low " on squatting movements.

Let’s take a closer look. Motiv II Workout Tights From Hylete – Material The Motiv II line are minimalist tights. This is all about breathable comfort – like a second skin. How does Hylete do it? By using a 83% Polyester and 17% Spandex blend. That’s a high proportion of spandex – and that’s what gives these such a luxurious stretchy fit. It’s a mild compression effect – that feels good but also has a slimming effect on your physique. They also dry quick – thanks to these synthetic materials. UPDATE: The Nike Metcon 7 is here. You can now buy the Nike Metcon 7 Mat Fraser PE (Personal Edition) or the Nike Metcon 7 X. I’ll leave my hopes and dreams here. Maybe these ideas will go into the Nike Metcon 8. What would you like to see Nike improve or change in the Nike Metcon 7? I’ve got some ideas – and that’s what we’re going to discuss in this article. First of all, let me say that we are probably 10-11 months from the next version of the Nike Metcon shoe, as I write this. I don’t have any knowledge of the Nike Metcon 7 Release Date – or even that there will be a Nike Metcon 7. But, I’m guessing there will be, as there has been an annual product launch every year since 2015 or so. The Nike Metcon shoe gets better and better every release – and in fact, I’ve declared the Nike Metcon 6 to be the best CrossFit shoe for 2020. While we wait for the next round of improvements, check out [Read more …]

If so, you may want to check out the new Nike React Infinity Run Flyknit – the newest running shoe from Nike that uses React foam. Nike claims this shoe can reduce the occurrence of running related injuries. I don’t have a practical way to validate that claim, but I can tell you this is a very comfortable, highly cushioned running shoe. Let’s dive in and take a close look. You can get this shoe from Road Runner Sports (we are an affiliate): Let’s look at what makes these running shoes unique. Nike React Foam Cushioning Let’s start with Nike’s React foam – because there is a lot of it. Why does Nike purport this shoe to be great for avoiding injuries? The use of React is a big part of it (but there’s more reasons.) React foam provides outstanding softness and cushion. But, it also provides energy and rebound with every [Read more …]
