Here are some of the styles we are going to look at:
GR3 Rucksacks – Overview
The GR3 is a gigantic bag! GORUCK describes it as one of the most oversized feasible carry-on bags and they are serious about it as it can carry 45 liters (expandable to 65L) with official dimensions at 22″ high and 14″ wide by 9″ diameter. It is so much bigger and bulkier than GR1 and GR2. The GR3 is made of 1000D CORDURA ballistic nylon, which is a long-lasting material that withstands abrasions, holes, and scrape; combine that with the heavy-duty YKK zippers, and you get yourself a remarkably durable backpack that can endure anything. It also has a separate bombproof laptop compartment next to your back to secure your laptop.
The GR3 comes in a slick MOLLE version that looks pretty similar to the GR2, having a good balance of simplicity and tactical. It has a substantial 45L carry-on that looks rather slim and doesn’t come out on your back which is surprising for a tactical backpack. It also comes with a super sturdy detachable hip belt that uses a DuraFlex buckle system and some superior foam padding that makes it super comfy. It has two neat handles on both sides for swift lifting, which are light and comfortable but still have the right amount of padding.
The GR3 has four compression straps which are not available in the GR2. The compression straps have DuraFlex buckles with a small elastic band that can carry any excess strap. Compared to the GR2, the GR3 is a big bag that doesn’t have small embedded pockets simply because it is intended for long-term travelers. The slash pocket is on the outside that goes down to the bottom of the pack. Goruck GR2 has seven pockets and has a slightly better organization, while the GR3 has only three pockets but with a larger capacity. It has one of the most extensive laptop compartments at 20″ high and 13″ wide and has a false bottom for your laptop’s added protection. The main compartment has a clamshell opening for smooth access to your items and is seven inches deep. The GR2 is only five inches deep, making it easier to organize. Compared to GR2, the GR3 is broader with newly added external components like the handlebars on both sides and compression straps.
GR3 Rucksacks Review – In Summary
That’s our review of GR3 Rucksacks.
The GR3 is bigger and has a capacity for two layers of packing cubes with neat external components, while the GR2 has more interior organization. The GR3 is the most oversized possible carry-on at 45L, and you can travel the world for a month or even more, specially if you use the waist belt to reduce your carry.
